The school break has given Trailblazers a fresh burst of energy and focus for the months ahead. With new ideas taking shape for Maleny Farm Fest and new members joining the team, we’re excited to share our enthusiasm and displays with other young people who’ll be part of this great event. Your ideas and energy can make a real impact! Take the lead, share your voice, and help create a Trailblazers Youth Zone that truly reflects what young people want to see and do. Come and meet us at Maleny Farm Fest on Saturday, 22 November, at the Maleny Show grounds and chat with the Trailblazers to see how you can get involved too.
I first became involved with the Maleny Trailblazers after I won the Maleny Show junior show princess title. Even though it was not named the Trailblazers at the time, the concept was the same. When we represented the Maleny show at the District level, we had to learn many new skills, such as public speaking and knowledge about agriculture in the area. The Maleny Trailblazers was vital in helping us be prepared for that event.

Since then, the Maleny Trailblazers has been a crucial part of myself-development. I have learnt so many new life skills that I can take with me in the future such as public speaking, developing self-confidence and meeting new people and making friends. We even had a meeting on hair and makeup!I have learnt such much about agriculture and tourism in the Maleny area. We have had tour days and have visited tourist attractions such as Mary Cairncross Park and accommodation providers, local dairies and had a tour of a working beef cattle farm that is built with special features to help with the animal’s wellbeing – I found that really interesting. We have also had meeting and zoom calls with various different agriculture representatives, which has also helped us prepare for the upcoming Maleny FarmFest, where the Trailblazers will be running a section of their own.
The Trailblazers has been great for developing my skills and confidence – I really appreciate it, and encourage anyone who wants to develop their skills for the future to join!
Youth-led ideas are shaping the November event, with the Trailblazers YouthZone emerging as a hub of energy, innovation, and inspiration.
A highlight will be the Your Future in Ag Talks, featuring speakers from the National Farmers’ Federation, University of Queensland Gatton Campus, and TAFE Queensland, sharing insights into agricultural career pathways. AgriFutures Australia will discuss their Horizon Scholarship, and the session will include “Maleny Graduate Makes Good in Ag,” celebrating a local success story that shows how regional beginnings can lead to national impact.

Know a group that should hear about Trailblazers? Let us know — every new connection helps us reach more young people..
Stepping out of your comfort zone and trying something new can feel both exciting and a little daunting. Trailblazers creates an atmosphere where young people are encouraged to take on new challenges in a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment. We welcome different ages, backgrounds, and experiences, and we believe that young men and women working together can learn from each other and build confidence as a team.
Trailblazers is open to all young people aged 10–18, free of charge and welcoming to everyone. No matter your background or school, you’re invited to step in, try something new, and discover what you’re capable of. Here, young people don’t just get ready for tomorrow — they learn how to lead and build it.
