H5 Bird Flu Update — What Maleny Show Community Members Need to Know

Important Biosecurity Update — H5 Bird Flu Detected in Australia

H5 bird flu has been confirmed in migratory wild birds on the south coast of Western Australia and South Australia. While there has been no detection in Queensland, no cases in poultry, and no evidence of mass wildlife mortality, the Queensland Government is actively monitoring the situation and has response measures in place.

The current risk to people in Australia remains low. As a Show Society we want to make sure our members, exhibitors and community are informed and know what to look out for.

Advice for the General Public

If you encounter sick or dead wild birds or wildlife:

  • Avoid contact — do not touch or collect them or disturb their environment

  • Report to the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline on 1800 675 888 (available 24/7) or call 13 25 23
