Looking after the showgrounds, all year round
If you’ve been to the Maleny Showgrounds lately, you might have noticed a few changes. Looking after the grounds is a year-round job, and several projects have recently been completed, with more on the way.
The showgrounds are home to the Maleny Show, but they’re also used by user groups, clubs and community events throughout the year. Keeping them safe, accessible and in good condition is one of the most important jobs the Maleny Show Society does.

What’s been done
Road restoration
The road leading to the horse arena and pony club areas has been restored, making access easier for everyone heading to that end of the grounds.
Underground power
Underground power has been restored following the skate park upgrade.
New fencing
New fencing is now in place around Evan Evans Arena and the Dairy Shed area.
New CCTV cameras
New CCTV cameras have been installed to cover black spots around the grounds. They help keep the showgrounds, and the facilities our user groups rely on, more secure.
What’s coming up
Upgrades to the steps and railings of the upper and lower Main Pavilion areas are now in the pipeline. We’ll share more as this work gets under way.
More than a showground
The main oval, the Dave Hankinson Oval, has once again been used by the Rescue Chopper for evacuations. That’s why it has to be kept in good condition at all times, ready whenever it’s needed.
It’s a reminder that the showgrounds play an important role for the wider community, well beyond Show time.

The team behind the grounds
None of this happens by accident. Our caretaker Dean and his volunteer grounds team keep the showgrounds in top condition all year round, from day-to-day upkeep to helping bring projects like these to life.
Their work often goes unseen, but it’s felt by everyone who uses the grounds, from Show visitors and exhibitors to riders, user groups and community event organisers. Next time you see them out there, give them a wave or say thanks.
A reminder about water
As the weather gets drier, water becomes more precious. Showgrounds water is for the grounds and our user groups only, and it is not there for the taking.
With new CCTV now covering the grounds, we ask everyone to do the right thing. If you see something that doesn’t look right, please let us know.
Coming up at the showgrounds
There’s plenty happening at the grounds over the coming weeks:
- Muscle on the Mountain, Sunday 1 November. An Apex Club event, one of our showgrounds user groups.
- Farm Fest, Saturday 21 November.
We look forward to seeing you there.
